Weekend in numbers

Resident statto @splstats looks at some of the numbers behind the weekend games...

5 – Rangers thumped Aberdeen 5-0 at Ibrox to close the gap at the top of the Ladbrokes Premiership table to just one point. The Gers have picked up 15 wins and two draws in 18 matches in all competitions this season, with their only defeat coming against Celtic. They have racked up an impressive 46 goals, conceding just eight and keeping 11 clean sheets in the process. Saturday’s victory equalled Rangers’ biggest ever win against Aberdeen – they have beaten them by five goals on seven previous occasions, with the most recent being in October 2004.

6 – Hamilton Accies climbed to eighth place in the Ladbrokes Premiership table thanks to a 2-1 victory over Livingston at the Fountain of Youth Stadium. Brian Rice’s side trailed to an early Alan Lithgow goal, but fought back through Blair Alston and Ross Cunningham to secure the victory. It was the first time Accies had come from behind to win a Premiership match since they defeated Partick Thistle 2-1 in February 2018. The victory extends Hamilton’s unbeaten home league run against Livingston to six matches – their last league loss to the Lions in Lanarkshire was back in October 2012.

6 – Dundee United thrashed Greenock Morton 6-0 at Tannadice to keep themselves at the top of the Ladbrokes Championship table on goal difference. Much of that goal difference advantage can be attributed to striker Lawrence Shankland, who again scored a hat-trick on Saturday to take his tally to 13 league goals in seven matches. The striker has now scored six hat-tricks since March 2018 – four for Ayr United and two for Dundee United. Saturday’s success was Dundee United’s biggest win since they defeated Andorran side CE Principat 9-0 in the UEFA Cup in July 1997.

2 – Raith Rovers left it late to defeat Forfar Athletic 2-1 at Station Park to move two points clear at the top of Ladbrokes League 1. Forfar debutant Russell McLean gave the hosts the lead, but Lewis Vaughan equalised for Rovers before Kieran MacDonald netted a stoppage time winner for the away side. John McGlynn’s side have now recorded back-to-back away league wins – the last time Rovers did that was the festive period in 2017/18 when they beat Arbroath just before Christmas and East Fife just after New Year. The victory ended Rovers’ six-match run without a win at Station Park – their last victory came in April 2007.

1 – Brechin City climbed off the foot of the Ladbrokes League 2 table thanks to a 2-1 victory over Elgin City at Glebe Park. Mark Wilson picked up his first points as Brechin boss thanks to Kieran Inglis’ stoppage-time winner, after Shane Sutherland had cancelled out Paul McManus’ opener. It was the Angus side’s first home win since they defeated Raith Rovers 2-1 in January – they had gone 13 without a victory since then. This was the first league meeting of the sides since the 2001/02 campaign, and Brechin maintained their 100% home record against The Black and Whites.
