William Hill Premiership

Weekend in numbers

Resident statto @splstats looks at some of the numbers from the weekend...

3 – Hibernian climbed to the top of the Premiership thanks to an impressive 4-1 victory over Livingston at the Tony Macaroni Arena. Jack Ross’ men were the first visiting side to score four goals there since Morton recorded a 4-2 win in the Championship in September 2015. Kevin Nisbet netted three of Hibs’ goals to claim the third hat-trick of his career. Nisbet previously bagged a treble for Dunfermline against Albion Rovers in the Betfred Cup in July last year, and also scored four times against former club Partick Thistle in the Championship in November. He became the third different Hibs player to score a hat-trick away from home since the start of last season.

3 – Rangers bounced back from their midweek Europa League elimination to record a comfortable 3-0 victory over St Mirren at Ibrox. The Gers maintained their impressive home record against St Mirren - Saints last won at Ibrox back in November 1991. In 18 matches since then, Rangers have picked up 16 wins and two draws, racking up an aggregate scoreline of 47-9.

1 – Dundee United defeated Motherwell 1-0 at Fir Park to secure their first top-flight victory since 2016. Former Steelman Mark Reynolds scored the only goal – it was the first time he had found the net for almost exactly three years, with his previous goal coming for Aberdeen against Ross County in August 2017. The Terrors have an impressive record at Fir Park – Saturday’s success was their seventh win in their last nine visits.

2 – Ross County made it two wins out of two thanks to a 1-0 victory over Hamilton Academical at the Foys Stadium. February’s Premiership Player of the Month Billy Mckay continued where he left off before the break by scoring the only goal for the Staggies. County had previously recorded just one win in their last eight visits to Hamilton. This is the first time Ross County have won their opening two matches of a top-flight season, though they did achieve this in their 2018/19 Championship-winning campaign.

1 – Kilmarnock and Celtic played out a hard-fought 1-1 draw at the BBSP Stadium, Rugby Park, with Chris Burke’s penalty cancelling out Ryan Christie’s free-kick. This is just the second time in the last nine seasons that Celtic have not taken six points from their first two matches of the season – the only other occasion was in 2018/19 when they were beaten 1-0 at Tynecastle in their second fixture. Recent meetings between these sides in Ayrshire have been fairly evenly balanced – in the last five matches the sides have two wins apiece along with yesterday’s draw.
