Weekend in numbers

Resident statto @splstats looks at some of the numbers from the weekend games across all four divisions of the SPFL...

11 – Rangers extended their lead at the top of the Premiership to 11 points courtesy of a 4-0 victory over Aberdeen at Ibrox on Sunday. Steven Gerrard’s side remain unbeaten in all competitions in 2020/21, with 18 wins and three draws in their 21 matches. They have kept an incredible 17 clean sheets, with Hibernian, Motherwell, Galatasaray and Benfica being the only sides to breach their defence. With 13 shut-outs in 15 league matches, the Gers are well on track to beat their club record of 27 in a league season, which was set in 1986/87 when there were 44 league games.

3 – Kilmarnock defeated Ross County 3-1 at the BBSP Stadium, Rugby Park to move two points clear in sixth place in the Premiership. Alex Dyer’s side played 82 minutes with 10 men following Stuart Findlay’s early dismissal, but nonetheless ran out winners thanks to goals from Eamonn Brophy, Nicke Kabamba and Chris Burke. Kilmarnock were the first team to score three goals in a Premiership match while being a man short since Aberdeen defeated County 3-2 at Dingwall in January 2016. Killie have now recorded three wins and a draw in their last four meetings with the Staggies in Ayrshire.

25 – Dunfermline Athletic defeated Heart of Midlothian 2-1 at East End Park to move three points clear at the top of the Championship. Stevie Crawford’s side have made their best start to a league season in 25 years – the last time they had 13 or more points from their opening five fixtures was back in 1995/96, when they went on to win the Division One title. It is the Pars’ first league win over the Jam Tarts since September 2004, when Barry Nicholson scored the only goal at East End Park – Robbie Neilson was part of the Hearts team that day.

3 – Clyde are up to eighth place in League 1 thanks to an exciting 3-2 win over Montrose at Broadwood. David Goodwillie scored all three goals for the Bully Wee to end a run of five straight defeats and hand them just their second victory of the season. It was the fourth hat-trick of Goodwillie’s career in Scottish football, and his third for Clyde – the last time he managed one was in September 2019 when he netted five goals in Clyde’s 6-1 win over Stranraer at Broadwood.

13 – Queen’s Park defeated Brechin City 3-0 at Hampden to extend their lead at the top of League 2 to four points. The Spiders are now unbeaten in their last six home matches against Brechin, a run which stretches back to 2008. Ray McKinnon’s side have picked up 13 points from their opening five league matches, which is their best start to a campaign in 21 years. The last time they started this well was in 1999/00, when they also picked up four wins and a draw and went on to win the Division Three title.
