Weekend in numbers

Resident statto @splstats looks at some of the numbers from the weekend...

7 – Dundee defeated Raith Rovers 2-1 at Dens Park to seal a top-four spot in the Championship. James McPake’s side are unbeaten in their last seven league matches, picking up four wins and three draws to secure their place in the Premiership play-offs and keep themselves in with a chance of finishing second. The victory extended their unbeaten home run against Rovers in the league to 12 matches – Raith’s last league win at Dens Park was back in April 1995.

5 – Partick Thistle moved four points clear at the top of League 1 thanks to a 1-0 victory over Airdrieonians at Firhill. Brian Graham scored the only goal of the game to secure three precious points for the Jags, while their nearest challengers Falkirk and Cove Rangers drew 2-2 at the Falkirk Stadium. Ian McCall’s side have surged to the top of the table with five consecutive victories and haven’t conceded a single goal in the process. This is the first time Thistle have won five league games in a row since February-March 2013, when they won eight on the trot on their way to the Division 1 title – they kept clean sheets in the first five of these matches, which was the last time they managed five in a row in the league.

4 – Stranraer boosted their chances of securing a top-four finish in League 2 thanks to an impressive 1-0 victory over champions Queen’s Park at the Falkirk Stadium on Friday. Stevie Farrell’s side have now recorded four consecutive league victories to propel themselves into fourth place in the table, five points clear of Elgin City, who have a game in hand. This is the first time since March-April 2018 that the Blues have won four league games in a row.

1 – Dundee United moved into the Scottish Cup semi-finals courtesy of a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Aberdeen at Pittodrie. A double from Marc McNulty and a goal from Ryan Edwards ensured the Terrors reached the last four for the first time since 2015/16. Micky Mellon’s side have faced Aberdeen four times this season and have picked up two wins and two draws without conceding a single goal. It was United’s first ever win over the Dons at Pittodrie in the Scottish Cup – in seven previous visits they had drawn twice and lost five times.

1 – St Johnstone earned their place in the last four of the Scottish Cup in dramatic fashion, defeating Rangers on penalties at Ibrox following a 1-1 draw. Chris Kane netted an equaliser in stoppage time of extra time with an unlikely assist from the head of goalkeeper Zander Clark, who then saved two penalties in the shoot-out. It is the first time Saints have ever eliminated Rangers in the Scottish Cup – the Light Blues had won all 12 of the previous ties between the sides. This is the first ever season that both Rangers and Celtic have been absent from the semi-finals of both major cup competitions.
