Weekend in numbers

Resident statto @splstats looks at some of the numbers from the weekend...

3 – Dundee United defeated Livingston 2-0 at Tannadice to move further clear of the foot of the cinch Premiership. Jamie McGrath and Steven Fletcher were on the scoresheet as Jim Goodwin’s side moved four points clear of bottom side Ross County and stayed ahead of 11th placed Kilmarnock on goal difference. United have recorded three consecutive victories, having previously not won a league match since January 2. This is the first time they have recorded three wins on the bounce since October 2021.

2 – Aberdeen maintained their five-point lead in the battle for third place in the cinch Premiership thanks to a 2-0 victory over Rangers at Pittodrie. Goals from Liam Scales and Bojan Miovski ended the Dons’ run of 14 matches without a victory against Rangers in all competitions. Aberdeen’s last victory over Rangers at Pittodrie came back in September 2016, when James Maddison scored a last-minute winner. Barry Robson’s side have now won seven matches in a row, which is Aberdeen’s best run since August-September 2015 – back then Robson was still a member of the playing squad and was a substitute in all seven games.

1 – Cove Rangers defeated Arbroath 1-0 at Gayfield to boost their hopes of survival in the cinch Championship. Morgyn Neill’s late winner moved Paul Hartley’s side level on points with 9th-placed Hamilton Accies at the bottom of the table, and to within three points of the Red Lichties in the safety of 8th position. It ended a run of 10 matches without a win for Cove, who face Dundee away and Morton at home in their final two fixtures. Cove remain unbeaten in competitive fixtures against Arbroath – they have two wins and two draws in four meetings.

240 – Montrose kept their slim chances of promotion from cinch League 1 alive with a 3-2 victory over Queen of the South at Palmerston. Two goals from Rory McAllister and one from Craig Brown means Stewart Petrie’s side are six points behind fourth placed Alloa with two matches remaining, including a home match against the Wasps next week. It was the Gable Endies’ first win in Dumfries since 1992, when Colin Maver scored the only goal in a 1-0 win. McAllister has now scored 240 league goals in his career, moving up to 13th in the all-time list for the Scottish League. Since World War II, only three players have scored more league goals than McAllister – Ally McCoist (282), Gordon Wallace (251) and Willie Wallace (246).

1 – Stirling Albion won the cinch League 2 title with a 3-1 victory over Annan Athletic at Forthbank. Goals from Jack Leitch and Flynn Duffy, plus a Max Kilsby own goal, handed the Binos their 20th league win of the season and secure a return to cinch League 1 after seven seasons. This is the first time Stirling have won the fourth tier title, but they have picked up four second tier titles and five third tier titles, the most recent of which was in 2009/10. This tally of 10 league titles places them in joint third place in terms of the total number of league titles won across all divisions of Scottish football, alongside Hibernian and Greenock Morton.
