7 - Dundee kicked off their 2024/25 campaign with a 7-1 thrashing of Bonnyrigg Rose at New Dundas Park. Curtis Main scored a treble, Lyall Cameron netted twice and Antonio Portales and Ryan Astley rounded off the scoring to hand Tony Docherty's side all three points in Group D of the Premier Sports Cup. It was the first time in almost 30 years the Dee had scored seven goals in an away match - the last time was back in December 1996 when East Fife were beaten 7-1 at Bayview thanks to goals from Iain Anderson (2), David Winnie, Jerry O'Driscoll, Robbie Raeside, Paul Tosh and Gavin Rae. Main's hat-trick was his first in a Scottish football career which has seen him make almost 200 appearances for Motherwell, Aberdeen, St Mirren and Dundee.
5 - Hibernian thumped Elgin City 5-0 at Borough Briggs to get their Premier Sports Cup campaign off to a flying start. A hat-trick from Dylan Vente plus goals from Martin Boyle and debutant Marvin Ekpiteta handed David Gray a victory in his first game as permanent manager. Hibs have won all three of their competitive meetings with Elgin without conceding a goal. It's the first time Hibs have scored five or more goals away from home since July 2018, when they defeated Faroes side NSI Runavik 6-4 in the Europa League qualifiers. Boyle has now scored for Hibs in 11 consecutive seasons, but still has some way to go to match his recently departed former team-mate Paul Hanlon, who did so in 16 straight campaigns from 2008/09 to 2023/24.
2 - Falkirk picked up where they left off last season by defeating Dundee United 2-0 at the Falkirk Stadium in their opening Premier Sports Cup fixture. Goals from Dylan Tait and Ross MacIver helped last season's League 1 champions beat last season's Championship winners. John McGlynn's side lost 1-0 at home to United at this stage of last season's competition but gained revenge on Saturday to give themselves a great chance of progressing to the last 16. Including the end of last season, Falkirk have now scored two or more goals in 10 consecutive matches - the last time they did this was between November 1957 and March 1958.
1 - Annan Athletic defeated Inverness Caledonian Thistle 1-0 at Galabank to make a successful start to their 2024/25 campaign. Tommy Goss scored the only goal of the game to hand Willie Gibson a victory in his first match in charge of the Galabankies. This was the first ever meeting of these sides at Galabank, and it brought Annan's first competitive victory over the Caley Jags. The two previous meetings had both been in Inverness - Caley Thistle won 8-1 in the Scottish Cup in 1998 and 4-0 in the League Cup in 2009.
3 - East Fife made an impressive start to their 2024/25 season, defeating Greenock Morton 3-0 at the MGM Timber Bayview Stadium. 38 year-old Alan Trouten was the hero for the Fifers, netting a hat-trick to hand Dick Campbell's side all three points. It was the third hat-trick of Trouten's long career in Scottish football - he previously netted three goals for Brechin City in a 7-2 league win over Stenhousemuir in 2012 and also scored a treble for Alloa Athletic in a 4-4 draw with Hamilton in the League Cup in 2017. Trouten has now scored 20 goals in total in the League Cup group stages since they were introduced in 2016/17 - only Simon Murray (21) has scored more.
