4 – Aberdeen defeated East Kilbride 4-0 at K-Park Training Academy to make it two wins out of two in the Premier Sports Cup. Nicky Devlin, Jamie McGrath, Leighton Clarkson and Shayden Morris were all on the scoresheet for Jimmy Thelin’s side, who remain level on points with Airdrieonians at the top of Group A. Six different players have already scored for the Dons this season, with Ester Sokler and Graeme Shinnie having also found the net in last weekend’s win over Queen of the South. The Dons have now gone 12 games without defeat over 90 minutes – their only setback in this period was a penalty shoot-out defeat to Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-final in April.
14 – St Johnstone continued their winning start to their Premier Sports Cup campaign with a 2-0 win over Greenock Morton at McDiarmid Park. Benjamin Kimpioka scored both goals for Craig Levein’s side to move them to the top of Group B. Saints have now won each of their last six matches against Morton in all competitions, and are unbeaten in their last 14 meetings (W10 D4). Morton’s last win over Saints was back in the 2006/07 Challenge Cup quarter-final, when two goals from Paul McGowan and one from Ryan Harding handed them a 3-2 victory.
6 – Partick Thistle thumped Edinburgh City 6-0 at Meadowbank Stadium to maintain their flawless start in Premier Sports Cup Group G. Scott Robinson, Brian Graham, Harry Milne, Ricco Diack, Wasiri Williams and Kyle Turner were all among the goals for Kris Doolan’s side, with all six goals coming in the final 34 minutes of the game. Doolan himself was one of the scorers the last time six different players found the net for Thistle in the same match – that was a 7-0 win over Airdrie in October 2012, when Chris Erskine, Aaron Muirhead, Steven Lawless, Sean Welsh and Ross Forbes also scored. Saturday’s result was Thistle’s biggest away win in almost 30 years – the last time they won by a margin of six or more goals on the road was back in August 1995, when Berwick Rangers were beaten 7-0 at Shielfield in the League Cup.
2 – Kelty Hearts picked up the shock of the Premier Sports Cup so far, with a 1-0 victory over Hibernian at New Central Park. Callum Flatman scored the only goal to hand Kelty the victory in the first ever competitive meeting of these two sides. This is just the second time in their history that Kelty have beaten top-flight opposition – the other was a Scottish Cup victory over St Johnstone in 2022. Michael Tidser’s side now know that victories over Peterhead and Queen’s Park would see them win the group and reach the last 16 stage of the Premier Sports Cup for the first time in their history.
4 – Peterhead kept their chances of progression in the Premier Sports Cup alive with a 4-2 victory over Elgin City at Balmoor. Despite Ben Armour’s opener, the Blues trailed 2-1 with 20 minutes remaining, but a goal from Caleb Goldie and a Jason Brown double sealed victory. This victory ended a run of 10 League Cup group stage matches without a win for Peterhead – their last victory came against Cove Rangers in July 2021.
