6 – Ayr United defeated Raith Rovers 3-2 at Somerset Park to move into the 4th Round of the SPFL Trust Trophy. Scott Brown’s side trailed 2-0 at half-time, but a double from Anton Dowds levelled things up before George Oakley netted the winner. Dowds has now scored eight goals in 10 appearances in all competitions – East Fife’s Nathan Austin (9) is the only SPFL player with more goals this season. Ayr have now won six consecutive home matches in all competitions – this is their best run since they did eight in a row from April to October 2018. Incrediby, the last time the Honest Men came from two goals behind to win a match at Somerset Park also came in the sixth man of that run - they defeated Falkirk 3-2 in September 2018.
5 – Dunfermline Athletic reached Round 4 of the SPFL Trust Trophy courtesy of a 2-0 win over East Fife at MGM Timber Bayview Stadium. Aaron Comrie and Lewis McCann found the net to hand James McPake’s side their first win in eight matches in all competitions. The Pars have picked up four wins and a draw on their last five visits to Methil, a run which stretches back over a decade. Dunfermline have never won this competition, and haven’t made it past the quarter-final stage since 2007/08, but will be hoping to change that this time around.
5 – Annan Athletic moved into Round 4 of the SPFL Trust Trophy with an emphatic 5-1 victory over Stranraer at Stair Park. Two goals from Aidan Smith and one apiece from Willie Gibson, Harrison Wood and Josh Dixon took the Galabankies into the last 16 of this competition for the first time since 2015. This is the first time Annan have scored five on the road since they defeated Albion Rovers 5-1 in the League Cup in November 2020. Annan have lost just one of their last 10 matches against Stranraer in all competitions – they have won four and drawn five since the start of the 2021/22 season, including knocking them out of this competition last season.
1 – Stenhousemuir reached Round 4 of the SPFL Trust Trophy thanks to a shock penalty shoot-out success against local rivals Falkirk. The match finished 1-1 after Blair Alston’s late penalty was cancelled out by an even later Calvin Miller equaliser, but the Warriors held their nerve to score five penalties out of five and win the shoot-out 5-4. The Warriors avenged their penalty shoot-out elimination by Falkirk at the same stage of this competition in 2002/03. Saturday’s success was Stenhousemuir’s second consecutive knock-out victory over their rivals – they also defeated the Bairns 4-2 in the Scottish Cup in 2018/19.
1 – Peterhead beat Dumbarton 1-0 at Balmoor to progress to the 4th Round of the SPFL Trust Trophy. Max Barry’s second half goal was enough to separate the sides and ensure that the Blue Toon are the only William Hill League 2 side to reach the last 16 stage of the competition. The Blue Toon have won four of their last five matches against the Sons, including all three home matches. It is the second consecutive season that Peterhead have knocked out William Hill League 1 opposition at this stage of the competition – they defeated Annan Athletic in Round 3 last season.
