3 – Kilmarnock secured their first William Hill Premiership victory of the season thanks to an astonishing 3-2 comeback success over Dundee at the Scot Foam Stadium at Dens Park. Derek McInnes’ side trailed 2-0 after 85 minutes but Matthew Kennedy and Bruce Anderson scored in the space of three minutes to level things up before Kennedy notched his second in stoppage time. It was the first time Killie have come from two goals behind to win a league game away from home since August 1991, when they defeated Meadowbank Thistle 3-2 thanks to goals from Bobby Williamson (2) and Ally Mitchell. Saturday’s comeback was just the second time this century a team have won an SPL/SFL/SPFL game after trailing by two goals after 85 minutes – the other was Raith Rovers’ 4-3 win at Airdrie in August 2018.
6 – Motherwell beat Hibernian 2-1 at Easter Road to stay in fourth place in the William Hill Premiership. Apostolos Stamatelopoulos’ first goal in Scottish football was quickly cancelled out but Andy Halliday scored a late winner to hand Stuart Kettlewell’s side all three points. This was Motherwell’s third consecutive 2-1 win – the last time they won three games in a row by the same scoreline was in March and April 2016, when they also recorded three 2-1 victories. The Steelmen have won six of their last seven matches in all competitions, their only blip was a loss to Aberdeen at Pittodrie – that too finished 2-1. With 15 letters in his surname, Stamatelopolous is the second longest-named player to score a Scottish top-flight goal this century – only Jan Venegoor of Hesselink (22 letters in his surname) has more.
5 – Queen’s Park defeated Hamilton Academical 1-0 at Hampden to move to within four points of the top of the William Hill Championship. Jack Turner’s goal was enough to keep Callum Davidson’s side in fourth place, a point behind Livingston and four behind Ayr United and Falkirk. The Spiders are unbeaten in their last five matches in all competitions, picking up four wins and a draw and conceding just two goals. Including the final game of last season, Queen’s Park are now eight home games without defeat – they haven’t lost in Glasgow since a 1-0 loss to Inverness Caledonian Thistle in April.
5 – Kelty Hearts climbed to the top of William Hill League 1 thanks to a sensational 5-1 victory over Queen of the South at Palmerston. Doubles from Ross Cunningham and Scott Williamson, plus a first career goal for Samuel Cleall-Harding, helped Michael Tidser’s side leapfrog their opponents to sit a point clear at the summit. This was the first time Kelty have scored five away goals in a league match since being promoted to the SPFL in 2021 – the last time they found the net five or more times in a league game was a 7-0 win over Vale of Leithen in the Lowland League in August 2019. William Hill League 1 is the tightest division in the country, with the top four sides separated by a point, and only five points separating the top eight.
5 – East Fife thumped Bonnyrigg Rose 5-0 at the MGM Timber Bayview Stadium to extend their lead at the top of William Hill League 2. A hat-trick from Alan Trouten plus a goal from Andrew Tod and a Tom Ritchie own goal sent Dick Campbell’s side four points clear. Trouten, who will turn 39 next month, has now scored 13 goals in all competitions and Saturday’s treble was his second of the season. His tally of nine league goals is two more than any other SPFL player – the second-top scorer is his team-mate Nathan Austin, with seven. Saturday’s win was the Fifers’ first ever home win over Bonnyrigg – their four previous meetings in Methil had ended with three Bonnyrigg victories and one draw.
