20 – Aberdeen defeated Dundee United 1-0 at Pittodrie to maintain their unbeaten start to the William Hill Premiership season. A late winner from Peter Ambrose, his first league goal for the club, was enough to make it 14 wins and one draw from Jimmy Thelin’s first 15 matches in charge. The Dons have eight wins and a draw from their opening nine league matches, which equals their best ever start to a league season – they made similar starts in 1935/36 and 1971/72. Including their final five matches of last season, the Dons are now unbeaten in 20 matches in all competitions, which is their best run since they went 22 without defeat from April-October 1987.
8 – Ross County moved up to seventh in the William Hill Premiership thanks to a 2-1 victory over Kilmarnock at the Global Energy Stadium. Don Cowie’s side trailed at half-time, but Jordan White equalised on the hour mark before a Joe Wright own goal sealed the three points. The Staggies are now unbeaten in their last eight matches against Killie in Dingwall – they have picked up five wins and three draws since their last defeat back in March 2017. Each of County’s last eight Premiership victories have come in Dingwall – their last away win came against Killie at the BBSP Stadium, Rugby Park last September.
3 – Hamilton Academical defeated Greenock Morton 3-0 at the ZLX Stadium to move up to sixth place in the William Hill Championship. The match was still evenly poised at 0-0 after 76 minutes, but Oli Shaw netted a quickfire hat-trick within the space of seven minutes to secure a victory. This was the first hat-trick of Shaw’s professional career and took his tally to seven league goals for the season, making him the top scorer in the division. Accies have lost just one of their last 10 home matches against Morton – they have picked up seven wins and two draws in that period.
100 – Cove Rangers climbed to the top of William Hill League 1 thanks to a 2-0 victory over Montrose at Links Park. Second-half goals from Michael Doyle and Mitch Megginson ensured that Paul Hartley’s side picked up a third 2-0 victory in a row. Megginson’s strike was his 100th goal in the Scottish League, a record which is all the more impressive given that he spent three seasons in the Highland League after joining Cove in 2016. Megginson has scored 77 league goals for Cove since they were promoted to the SPFL in 2019 – prior to this he scored 13 for Dumbarton, 4 for Alloa Athletic, 3 for Arbroath, 2 for Brechin City and 1 for Raith Rovers.
6 – Peterhead moved into Round 3 of the Scottish Cup after a thrilling 6-3 victory over Lochee United at Balmoor. Peterhead’s goals came through a Jason Brown double plus Andy McCarthy, Cieran Dunne, Seb Ross and Cammy Smith, while 39-year-old former SPFL star Bobby Linn rolled back the years to net a hat-trick for Lochee. This was the highest scoring game at Balmoor since October 2017, when the Blue Toon beat Colville Park 9-0 at the same stage of the Scottish Cup. Peterhead are one of six William Hill League 2 sides to make it through to Round 3 – they are joined by Edinburgh City, Elgin City, Forfar Athletic, Stirling Albion and Stranraer.
