6 – Heart of Midlothian thumped Dundee 6-0 at the Scot Foam Stadium at Dens Park to move up to 7th place in the William Hill Premiership. Two goals from Elton Kabangu and one apiece from Lawrence Shankland, Blair Spittal, Musa Drammeh and Kenneth Vargas moved Neil Critchley’s side to within a point of the top six. This was Hearts’ biggest top-flight away win since February 1988, when they beat St Mirren 6-0 at Love Street with goals from John Colquhoun (3), John Robertson (2) and Wayne Foster. The Jam Tarts are now unbeaten in seven matches – they have picked up five wins and two draws since losing the Edinburgh derby on Boxing Day.
10 – Hibernian climbed to 5th in the William Hill Premiership thanks to a 2-0 victory over Aberdeen at Easter Road. Nectar Triantis and Nicky Cadden scored the goals for David Gray’s side as they moved to within two points of their opponents in the table, and just four behind third-placed Dundee United. The victory extended the Hibees’ unbeaten run to 10 matches in all competitions – they have won seven and drawn three since losing to Celtic at the start of December. This is Hibs’ longest run without defeat since January-April 2018, when they went on to finish 4th in their first season back in the top flight.
9 – Livingston defeated Falkirk 2-1 at the Falkirk Stadium on Friday night to blow the William Hill Championship title race right open. Robbie Muirhead and Reece McAlear found the net as David Martindale’s side made it four wins in a row in all competitions. Only two points now separate the top three – Ayr United moved to the top on Saturday, with Falkirk one point behind and Livi one behind Falkirk, although the Bairns have a game in hand. Livingston are now unbeaten in nine league matches against Falkirk, a run which stretches back to January 2016.
1 – Stenhousemuir returned to the top of William Hill League 1 thanks to a 3-0 victory over Montrose at Links Park. Blair Alston, Ross Taylor and Corey O’Donnell were all on the scoresheet for Gary Naysmith’s side as they returned to winning ways after a run of four games without a victory. This is the most competitive division in the SPFL - just five points separate the top six and the lead has changed hands 11 times across the course of the season. This was the Warriors’ first league win away to Montrose since they won by the same scoreline in November 2008 – they had drawn one and lost five on six visits since then.
4 – Edinburgh City gained a massive three points in their push for a play-off spot in William Hill League 2 thanks to a thrilling 4-3 victory over Stirling Albion at Meadowbank. Stirling went 3-2 up just after half-time but Ouzy See quickly equalised and Innes Lawson grabbed a late winner, before missing a penalty. City are now seven points clear of their opponents in the race for fourth but also have to keep an eye on city rivals Spartans, who are eight behind with three games in hand. This was the first time in over two years that the Citizens had scored four goals in a game – the last one was a 5-3 win away to Airdrie in January 2023.
