@splstats looks at some of the numbers behind the weekend games:
2 Aberdeen's 2-1 victory over Inverness CT on Saturday moved them 19 points clear of their Highland opponents, thus guaranteeing the Dons at least 2nd place in the Premiership. This is the first time in 21 years that Aberdeen have finished in the top two of Scottish football – back in the 1993/94 season, Willie Miller's side finished three points behind Rangers and a point ahead of third-placed Motherwell (under a two points for a win system).
3 Leigh Griffiths' hat-trick helped Celtic defeat Dundee United 3-0 to move to within five points of the Premiership title. It was the striker's second hat-trick in 11 days, and his third hat-trick for the club since joining from Wolves last January. Griffiths is the first Celtic player to score a hat-trick at Tannadice since Shunsuke Nakamura netted three in a 4-1 win in October 2006. Griffiths has now scored 25 goals for Celtic in 50 appearances – a statistic which is even more impressive when you consider that 18 of those appearances came as a substitute.
90 Hearts defeated Cowdenbeath 2-1 at Central Park to move 23 points clear at the top of the Championship table, and take their tally to 90 points with one match remaining. This broke the existing record for the highest points tally for the second tier, set by Edinburgh rivals Hibernian, who picked up 89 points in 1998/99. It is worth noting that the three points for a win system has only been in place since 1994/95 – if tallies prior to that are converted to three points for a win then the record would be 102 points, set by Morton in 1966/67.
13 The unpredictable League 1 title race took another twist on Saturday as Morton defeated Stranraer 2-0 at Stair Park to move to the top of the table with one match remaining. Three different clubs topped the table on Saturday – Stranraer started the day at the summit, Forfar Athletic moved top after winning their 3pm kick-off, then Morton leapfrogged both sides with their victory in the late game. The lead has now changed hands 13 times since the start of the season, with Ayr United and Dunfermline Athletic also having spells at the summit in the early part of the season. Morton, Forfar and Stranraer all retain a chance of grabbing the title on what will no doubt prove to be an exciting final day.
9 Annan Athletic came out on top in a thriller at Borough Briggs as their sensational 5-4 win over Elgin City kept them in with a slim chance of clinching the final play-off spot. The nine goals in Saturday's fixture made it the Galabankies' highest-scoring league match since they joined what was then the SFL in 2008. It also matched Elgin's highest-scoring league match since joining in 2000 – they had previously witnessed nine goals in an 8-1 defeat away to Alloa Athletic in April 2012. Amazingly, it was Elgin's second 5-4 defeat of the season – they also lost 5-4 away to Bo'ness United in a Scottish Cup replay.
