Arbroath Chairman John Christison has invited potential managers to apply as soon as possible as he looks to replace Player/Manager Paul Sheerin who left for Aberdeen to be their under-20 coach on Friday.
The Gayfield side were left stunned by Sheerin’s quick fire departure and Christison has advised interested parties to get in quick as the Red Lichties are playing the Dons in a friendly a week on Saturday.
Christison said: “Paul leaving us was a bit of a bombshell as we were not expecting it. The timing is difficult for us as the players get back together this weekend. Even if we had a couple of more weeks warning to get someone in, it would have been tight for the new season.”
There has been no fall-out with Sheerin who guided Arbroath to their only senior trophy when they lifted the Third Division title in 2011 with Christison saying: “Despite the timing Paul has left here on very good terms. He has been offered a full time job in football and a full time job at a club on the way up with a management team in Derek McInnes and Tony Docherty that he is very friendly with. No-one here can criticise him for taking the opportunity.”
“We have to move on and are looking for applications as soon as possible. Our assistant manager Stewart Petrie is in charge just now and will continue for the time being.”
