Kenny McLean | SPFL gave me platform to progress

The Scotland star featured in Episode 2 of the SPFL Scrapbook

As he prepares for Euro 2024 with Scotland, midfield ace Kenny McLean believes his grounding in the SPFL has helped him become the layer that he is today.

McLean, who was named Norwich City's Player of the Year, began his senior career with St. Mirren before turning out for Aberdeen and the Canaries with a loan spell with Arbroath coming early in his development.

The 32-year-old played a crucial part in Scotland's qualification for this summer's finals in Germany, scoring the winner against Norway in Oslo and after missing out on Euro 2020 through injury, McLean can't wait for his first taste of an international tournament.

But appearing on episode 2 of the SPFL's Scotland Scrapbook, he hasn't forgotten where he established himself as a classy midfielder with an eye for goal.

“It really made me into what I am today.

“It opened plenty of doors and gave me that platform to go and progress my career further.” 💪

He said: "It [the SPFL] is a place where I’ve obviously plied my trade.

"I loved playing in the SPFL, even going back to Arbroath when we were in League 1 and unfortunately got relegated that year.

"It was somewhere that brought the best out in me and gave me the platform to progress and move down south and play in the Championship and the opportunity to play in the Premier League.

"It really made me into what I am today. It opened plenty of doors and gave that platform to go and progress my career further."
