Recognition for Hugh McCann
Alloa Athletic's head of Youth Hugh McCann's dedication to delivering the next generation of players was rewarded with the former Wasps and Queen's Park first team boss being recognised with the Youth Director Award from the SFA.
McCann combined his considerable experience in the game with 16 months of studying with the game's governing body in a programme that involved the creation of detailed training sessions and player development profiles along with education in psychology and physiology.
McCann also spent time with the NK Dinamo club in Croatia studying their methods of youth development.
Recreation Park boss Allan Maitland was able to utilise some of McCann's young charges towards the end of their last season, with Marc McCafferty and Greig Spence playing a vital role in Alloa's league run-in.
Maitland said, "I am delighted to hear Hugh has secured this award and I am delighted with the quality of player he is bringing through for me to use in the first team."
Free game for Ross County fans
Ross County are giving season ticket holders a game for free with their Challenge Cup match with Alloa Athletic on July 25 being included in their purchase. The Dingwall club have also frozen prices for next season as the same as the season just past.
Old head joins up with young body
The Third Division's youngest manager, Montrose's Steven Tweed, has brought in an experienced old head to help him as assistant manager at Links Park. Former East Fife and Forfar boss Jim Moffat is to leave his job as assistant to Willie Garner at Junior side Tayport after Saturday's game with Glenrothes to join up with 36 year old Tweed.
The Gable Endies boss, who was appointed in January, said, "I am delighted to bring in such an experienced person as Jim Moffat. He knows the Third Division really well and he also has experience of getting a team promoted out of this league on a limited budget."
Tweed added, "On a personal level it will be great for me, as a relatively inexperienced manager, to be able to tap into Jim's knowledge and I am sure we will be a successful partnership."
