Ayr United’s Community Football programme suffered a huge blow at the weekend when over £7,500 worth of kit and equipment was stolen from Somerset Park. A container containing portable goals, balls and equipment, was simply lifted onto a lorry and taken away at some point between Saturday night and Monday morning.
A spokesperson said, “It is a huge blow to our Academy which is a charity formed to provide footballing activity, including over 200,000 class places for children in partnership with the SFA.”
“We will attempt to continue delivering courses but additional funding will be required if the equipment is not found or returned. We would ask that if anyone has information that might help the police that they contact Alastair Mitchell at Ayr Police Station on 01292 664000 or Graham Steel, the Ayr United Security Manager, on 01292 263435.”
Some of the equipment taken was:
4v4, 7v7, 9v9 goalposts
Over 500 training balls
Tesco bank kits
McDonalds kits
Hurdles and slalom poles
Cones, mannequins, agility ladders
Youth and adult bibs
Fully kitted out first aid kits & bags
AUFA Academy training kits
AUFA Coaches training kits
Weight training equipment
Sports science equipment including:
Scales, stopwatches, measuring wheel, speed gates, speed parachutes, reaction belts
A lot of this gear is branded with one of the following so would be easy to spot should it be offered to anyone from the normal official channels:
SFL
AUFA
McDonalds
Tesco Bank
