Morton midfielder Fouad ‘Fred’ Bachirou has received an international call-up from the Comoros national team to play against Burkina Faso in Marseille on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old former Paris Saint-Germain player was born in France but qualifies to play for the island country that lies off the east coast of Africa, and has a population of less than one million, as both his parents were born there.

The national side was formed in 1979, joined the Confederation of African Football in 2003 and became FIFA members in 2005.

The last time the Greenock club had a player selected for international duty was 14 years ago when Paul Fenwick appeared for Canada.
