Betfred Cup Semi-Final: St. Johnstone's Key Players

The men who could make the difference for Saints on Saturday...

We asked A View From the Terrace's Craig Fowler to give us his three key players from each of the weekend's Betfred Cup semi-finalists, starting off with St Johnstone.

Zander Clark

When Clark first came on the scene he looked like a Scottish international in waiting and Saints fans were rightly miffed when other Scottish Premiership shot-stoppers were given opportunities at national level above their academy graduate. However, his form the last couple of seasons has been patchy, something which can't afford to happen this weekend. The 28-year-old will need to be at his vintage best if the underdogs are going to keep the Hibs attackers at bay.

Ali McCann

Though Hibs go into the match as favourites, one area of the park where St Johnstone will feel confident about getting some joy out of the is in centre-midfield. Jack Ross' men have added Jackson Irvine and Chris Cadden to strengthen their ranks, but both are still getting up to speed. The same could have been said about McCann earlier this campaign as he struggled to replicate his 2019/20 form, but he's since regained his swagger and is once again playing like one of the brightest prospects, and centre-midfielders, in the country.

David Wotherspoon

The Perth Saints have struggled badly for goals this season, both in the creating and the finishing. When they are on top of their game it is typically Wotherspoon, either playing on the left of the front three or in the No.10 role behind two strikers, who gives them some much-needed ingenuity in the final third. As much of a threat to score as assist, he'll also be looking to make a name for himself at the national stadium against his former club.

Check out how St. Johnstone reached the Betfred Cup Semi-Finals here, as you can see every one of the goals that took them there!
