Motherwell defeated HB Torshavn 2-0 at Fir Park in the first leg of their Conference League qualifying round two game on Thursday evening.
Martin Moormann opened the scoring from outside the box after 15 minutes and Lukas Fadinger added the second goal in 57 minutes with another superb strike from distance.
The Steelmen will hope to complete the job in the Faroes next week and set up a likely meeting with HJK Helsinki, who beat Coleraine 5-0 tonight.
Earlier in the day, Hibernian suffered a 2-0 defeat to Malisheva in Kosovo but will aim to turn the tie round at Easter Road in a week's time.
