Celebrating Dennis McCleary

Berwick Rangers hero presented with SPFL medal

Berwick Rangers’ Shielfield Park was the location for a special presentation as SPFL Group Chief Executive Neil Doncaster visited to honour one of the club’s unsung heroes.

Dennis McCleary was presented with a special SPFL long-service medal for his outstanding contribution to Scottish football and in particular, The Borderers.

More than 1,000 players have donned the Berwick Rangers strip in Dennis’ time at the club and the stalwart has worked with an incredible 25 managers.

Dennis has played a vital role behind the scenes in both of Berwick’s league championship successes in 1978/79 and 2006/07.

One of the game’s well-known and respected figures, Dennis’ work was recognised at the last Scottish Football League Awards in 2013.

Neil Doncaster said: “One of the high points of my job is to hand out medals top players and managers – like this one – at the end of the season.

“It is my sincere pleasure to present Dennis with a specially commissioned SPFL medal, which has been awarded by the Board of Directors of the Scottish Professional Football League for outstanding service to Scottish football.

“I’d like to thank Dennis on behalf of the SPFL for all he has done and continues to do, to support Scottish football in general, and Berwick Rangers Football Club in particular.”
