Celtic Rangers William Hill Premiership

Celtic v Rangers - 6th October 2002

Tune into the SPFL YouTube channel on Saturday at midday for a classic meeting at Parkhead!

This week's featured match was a thrilling SPL encounter between Celtic and Rangers in October 2002.

This was the first Old Firm meeting since May, when Rangers won 3-2 in the Scottish Cup final, and the Light Blues were unbeaten in four Glasgow derbies since losing 2-1 at Celtic Park in November 2001.

Rangers, managed by Alex McLeish, were one point ahead of Martin O'Neill's Celtic side at the top of the SPL table. The Ibrox club had drawn their opening fixture at Kilmarnock but responded with eight straight league wins, keeping clean sheets in seven of them.

Celtic had also won eight of their nine matches - losing the other 2-1 at Motherwell - and had thumped Kilmarnock 5-0 in their latest SPL outing, helped by a Henrik Larsson hat-trick.

Both teams had been in UEFA Cup action on the Thursday prior to this game - Celtic beat Suduva 2-0 in Lithuania to seal a 10-1 aggregate victory while Rangers defeated Viktoria Zizkov 3-1 at Ibrox but were knocked out on the away goals rule after losing the first leg 2-0.
