Rangers' only dropped points came in a 2-2 draw at Easter Road - Giovanni van Bronckhorst's men beat Ross County 4-0 in their most recent cinch Premiership fixture.
Celtic go into the game on the back of a 4-1 win away to Ross County in the last 16 of the Premier Sports Cup in midweek while Rangers beat Queen of the South 3-1 at Ibrox.
Celtic's Kyogo Furuhashi tops the Premiership scoring charts with six league goals so far. Rangers' leading marksman is Antonio Colak, with four league goals.
The last meeting of the teams was a 1-1 draw at Celtic Park in May - Jota opened the scoring and Fashion Sakala netted the equaliser.
Celtic took seven points to Rangers' four in the cinch Premiership last season but the Ibrox club came out on top in the Scottish Cup semi-final.
Both sides are in Champions League action in midweek - Celtic host Real Madrid on Tuesday and Rangers are away to Ajax on Wednesday.
Rangers are due to host Celtic on Monday January 2, with the second Celtic Park encounter scheduled for the weekend of April 8.
