As the cinch Premiership returns, the destination of the title could be officially confirmed this weekend.
Celtic will be named champions with victory over Heart of Midlothian at Tynecastle in the first of two Sunday fixtures taking place to complete the first round of post-split matches.
Ange Postecoglou’s side could complete the second part of a potential domestic treble with three points in front of the Sky cameras while Steven Naismith’s hosts will be aiming to make up ground on Aberdeen in the quest for third place.
Sunday’s second game sees Rangers meet Aberdeen at Ibrox with the Dons riding high after a run of seven successive wins, which earned manager Barry Robson a new two-year contract. Michael Beale’s Rangers lost out to the Reds last time out and they’ll be hoping to build some momentum heading into the close season.
Saturday’s schedule is dominated by the fight for Premiership survival with St. Johnstone welcoming Dundee United to Perth. Saints began life under interim boss Steven MacLean with a draw with Hibernian while United are on the rise under Jim Goodwin following three wins on the spin.
After securing their first away league win of the season last time out, Kilmarnock are on the road again to take on Motherwell at Fir Park. Kevin van Veen has scored nine goals in his last six Premiership outings for the Steelmen and has found the net in two of the three meetings with Killie this term. Derek McInnes’ team are unbeaten against Saturday’s opponents during the campaign but their last victory on this ground came in December 2020.
Livingston missed out on a top six spot in GW33 and they head north to face bottom of the table Ross County, who are looking to claw back the gap to their relegation rivals. County have the immediate goal of avoiding the drop while Livi can consolidate their place in seventh as they begin to prepare for next term.
Hibernian and St. Mirren both secured their status in the top half of the table in the final round of pre-split fixtures. Should Celtic win the Scottish Cup then fifth spot would provide an entry into European qualifiers and so there’s plenty to play for at Easter Road.
