cinch Premiership Preview: GW35

There’s lots to look forward to as the race for Europe and basement battle heat up

The destination of the cinch Premiership title may have been settled but there’s still plenty of intrigue in the top flight as we move into the final four fixtures.

This weekend’s action begins with one final derby day in Glasgow as Rangers host Celtic on Sky Sports. Ange Postecoglou’s champions have the 100-point total in their sights while Michael Beale has begun building for next season with a summer of change anticipated at Ibrox this summer.

Aberdeen and Hibernian are gripped in the hunt for European spots and their meeting at Pittodrie will go some way to seeing if they can achieve their goals. Victory for the Dons will boost their prospects of ending the season in third spot while Hibernian sit just one point away from city rivals Hearts.

Steven Naismith’s Jam Tarts head to Paisley knowing that three points against St. Mirren would set them up perfectly for next weekend’s showdown with the Dons in the capital. Stephen Robinson’s men have suffered three defeats in a row and will be looking to ensure their campaign doesn’t end with a whimper.

Last weekend’s results made things tighter at the foot of the table with Ross County making up ground on their relegation rivals.

The Staggies travel to Tannadice knowing that victory would see them leapfrog hosts Dundee United at this crucial period of the season. Jim Goodwin’s men are aiming to bounce back from a narrow loss at the hands of St. Johnstone last time out and they’ll have to cope without the services of Charlie Mulgrew through suspension.

Kilmarnock and Livingston both suffered defeats in their first post-split encounters as they prepare to go head-to-head at Rugby Park. Livingston can take heart from their recent record against the Ayrshire side, winning all three meetings so far this term. Meanwhile Killie are in search of some home comforts in their survival mission, having claimed 26 of their 31 points on their own patch.

Liam Gordon’s goal moved St. Johnstone further away from the bottom three with victory over Dundee United and they have the chance to build on that result when Motherwell come calling. In Kevin van Veen, the Steelmen boast the cinch Premiership’s in-form forward with the Dutchman having found the net in each of his last seven league outings.
