William Hill Premiership

cinch Premiership preview: GW37

There’s a huge amount to play for in the penultimate round of fixtures.

It’s a massive midweek of cinch Premiership action with all 12 teams taking to the field on Wednesday evening.

There will be plenty of eyes on the bottom six with 12th-place Dundee United facing tenth-place Kilmarnock at Tannadice. Three points for United would see them leapfrog Derek McInnes’ side in the table while a win for the Ayrshire side would open up a six-point gap on the Terrors.

Both sets of fans will also be anxiously keeping across events from the game taking place at the same time in Dingwall where Ross County entertain a St. Johnstone team, who are already assured of their place in next season’s top flight. County currently occupy the play-off spot and will be looking to pick up points for what could be a last-day showdown with Kilmarnock at Rugby Park. Meanwhile Saints can start to build for next year with interim manager Steven MacLean seeking to add to his haul of seven points from his four matches in charge so far.

Should Kilmarnock and Ross County manage to win their respective matches then Dundee United would be relegated to the cinch Championship before the final round of fixtures.

Livingston and Motherwell meet at the Tony Macaroni Arena in a contest which could decide who finishes top of the bottom six. Motherwell striker Kevin van Veen is looking to score for the tenth successive cinch Premiership match while Livingston are aiming to build on their weekend win and see out the campaign in style at home.

The race for Europe is alive and kicking as Aberdeen hold a two-point advantage over Heart of Midlothian as both teams vie for third. The Dons will be looking to make an immediate recovery against St. Mirren at Pittodrie and they did run out 4-1 winners in the season’s first meeting. Supporters of the Buddies will have fonder memories of February’s fixture as ex-Aberdeen attacker Curtis Main helped inspire them to a 3-1 victory.

Steven Naismith’s Hearts kept their hopes of catching the Reds alive at the weekend and they make the trip along the M8 to Ibrox to take on Rangers. Michael Beale’s men have an unbeaten home league record to maintain as the home crowd say farewell to a number of favourite faces but they’ll have to be wary of Jam Tarts captain Lawrence Shankland, who took his league tally for the season to 23 on Saturday.

Kyogo Furuhashi is the man Shankland has to catch in the race for this season’s top scorer award and the Celtic forward could get the chance to add to his total if he’s selected against Hibernian at Easter Road. It’s a final home game of the season for Lee Johnson’s team while the visitors can still surpass the 100-point mark this term.
