cinch Premiership Preview: GW38

The final weekend will determine who claims fourth place and who will compete in the play-offs

The 2022/23 cinch Premiership season finale is upon us and there’s just 90 minutes left to decide some key issues.

Fourth place and bragging rights are up for grabs in the final Edinburgh derby with hosts Heart of Midlothian leading city rivals Hibernian by two points heading into their Saturday lunchtime showdown.

Champions Celtic will lift the cinch Premiership trophy after their encounter with Aberdeen, live on Sky Sports, with the Dons already secure in third spot.

After earning a top-six finish for the first time in the SPFL era, St. Mirren will close out the term against Rangers in Paisley as Michael Beale prepares to carry out a summer rebuild of the Ibrox squad.

The bottom six take centre stage on Sunday with the battle to avoid the cinch Premiership play-off place remaining live.

Ross County currently occupy that place with the Staggies knowing they must defeat opponents Kilmarnock in Ayrshire to avoid a two-leg fight for top-flight survival.

Midweek results all but condemned Dundee United to relegation to the cinch Championship. Jim Goodwin’s Terrors face a Motherwell side led by talismanic forward Kevin van Veen, who has scored in 10 consecutive cinch Premiership matches - equalling a club record set by Hughie Ferguson in 1920.

St. Johnstone and Livingston will bring the curtain down on their journeys in Perth with both sides already looking forward to another year at Scottish football’s top table.
