St. Mirren Livingston William Hill Premiership

cinch Premiership Top Six permutations

Three teams are fighting for the two remaining places

We've reached decision day in the cinch Premiership season as the final round of pre-split fixtures sees three teams battling for the two remaining top six spots.

Here’s what each side needs heading into Gameweek 33.

St. Mirren

Win: An easy one to explain. Three points against Kilmarnock will secure St. Mirren a top six spot for season 2022/23.

Draw: One point would take Stephen Robinson’s side to 45 points for the campaign, a total which could only be matched by seventh-place Livingston if they beat Dundee United at Tannadice. Saints hold the advantage over the Lions on goal difference so a draw should be enough to claim a top six spot.

Loss: Defeat to Derek McInnes’ Killie would see Saints vulnerable to losing their top half place. A Kilmarnock win combined with victories for both Hibernian and Livingston (or a Hibs draw and a Livi win) would mean that St. Mirren would finish in the bottom six.

Hibernian

Win: Last week’s Edinburgh Derby triumph means that victory at McDiarmid Park against St. Johnstone will secure top six football.

Draw: One point in Perth would see attentions turn to Tannadice where Hibs’ nearest challengers, Livingston take on Dundee United. In the event of a Hibs draw, only a win for Livingston would deny the capital club the chance to take on the league’s best after the split.

Loss: Defeat for Hibs in the Big County would really open the door to David Martindale’s Livingston. Hibs have a superior goal difference compared to Livi (-3 v -17) and so it would take a Livi win at Tannadice to stop Lee Johnson’s men from reaching the top half.

Livingston

Win: A 2-0 home win over St. Johnstone has kept Livingston’s top six hopes alive and realistically only victory in the City of Discovery will be enough to realise that ambition. That result plus defeat for either St. Mirren or Hibernian (or a draw for Hibs) would be enough for Martindale’s men to grace the top half.

Draw: Livingston’s -17 goal difference is the worst of the chasing pack and so barring a complete collapse from Hibernian in Perth, one point won’t be enough for a top six spot.

Loss: This one is easy. Defeat at Tannadice would end any chance Livingston have of a top half finish this term.
