Livingston’s highly rated 18-year-old defender Coll Donaldson has finally secured his move to join English Championship side Queen’s Park Rangers who are managed by the colourful Harry Redknapp.
Donaldson, who has been with the Lions since he was 15, is the second player to leave the West Lothian club for England in a week as midfielder Stefan Scougall joined Sheffield United last week.
The youngster’s rise has been rapid as he signed a two year deal with Livingston last January not long after he was invited to train with Manchester United and he made his first team debut two months later against Dunfermline.
This season he has made 24 appearances for the Championship side, and although he was dismissed in his last outing against Falkirk at the beginning of January he leaves with the best wishes of the club.
Manager John McGlynn has no doubts that Donaldson will go on to star in London as he explained: “Coll has worked his way through the youth ranks here so whilst it is always disappointing to lose one of your own he deserves a crack at English football.
Like Stefan he has worked hard to get his move but Coll is slightly different than the rest of the kids we have here”
“He has the greatest of potential because his attributes as a defender are all there. He’s the right size and very strong. He is the modern day defender in that he’s got two good feet and isn’t just the stopper type of years gone by.”
“Centre backs now take the ball and play and he can certainly do that. He just looks like the ideal defender to play in English football and potentially in the future international football.”
