Davidson calls it a day

Montrose captain retires after 14 years

Hugh Davidson in action for MontroseMontrose have announced that captain Hugh Davidson has decided to bring his 14 year football career to an end. The midfielder has decided to retire and his playing days ended in disappointing fashion at the weekend as he was substituted after just 20 minutes of the Links Park side’s game at Hampden against Queen’s Park when he was injured in a clash with the home side’s Giuseppe Capuano.

The 30 year old has been with Montrose for 5 years joining them from Arbroath following spells at Forfar, Raith Rovers and Stirling Albion after beginning his career at Dundee United where he scored once in 26 starts for the Tannadice men in a 2-1 CIS Cup success against St Johnstone.

Gable Endies’ boss Ray Farningham said. “It was a disappointing way to end a good career when Hugh had to come off after only 20 minutes. He had really been looking forward to the game and to go off so soon was a shame.”

“I really felt for him as he has been a great servant to the club.”
