Young Dundee fan Rhys Williamson today presented the SPFL Championship flag to the club ahead of the first league game of the new season.
The SPFL, believed to be the only league body in the world which presents flags to league winners, has been running competitions to allow young supporters to deliver the flags to their heroes.
Nine-year-old Dundee diehard Williamson met with team manager Paul Hartley and a number of first-team players, with the group posing for pictures and chatting about the upcoming campaign.
The winner of the competition, which ran on the SPFL’s Facebook page, also received a pair of tickets to Dundee’s opening game of the new SPFL Premiership season against Kilmarnock.
Neil Doncaster, SPFL chief executive, said: “The annual presentation of champions’ flags to winners of all four SPFL divisions is something which is unique to the Scottish game.
“Ahead of each clubs’ opening home game of the new season, we’re delighted to share the special moment that is delivery and presentation of the flags with young fans who represent the lifeblood and future of the sport in Scotland.”
Rhys was nominated by his Mum Cheryl, who said: “Dundee is his life, he follows Dundee home and away and even made a 16-hour train journey to Morecambe to watch his beloved team.”
He was selected at random in a draw featuring more than 60 nominations.
