Euro Review: Defeats for Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibs

The Dons will play in the Conference League as both capital clubs were eliminated

Aberdeen will play in the UEFA Europa Conference League group stage after losing out to BK Häcken in their Europa League Play-Off at Pittodrie.

Having fought back from a two-goal deficit in the first leg, the Dons found themselves 2-0 behind at home via a double from Ibrahim Sadiq.

Barry Robson's Reds had chances with Duk denied when one-on-one with the goalkeeper while Bojan Miovski hit the post with a looping header.

Miovski pulled one back from the penalty spot after a VAR review showed that Duk was brought down in the area.

But Häcken restored their two-goal lead when Sadiq was fouled by Slobodan Rubezic and Amor Layouni converted to make it 3-1 on the night and 5-3 on aggregate.

Heart of Midlothian’s European adventure came to an end after losing out 4-0 to PAOK Salonika in Greece.

Trailing 2-1 from the first leg, Hearts fell further behind after Brazilian veteran Taison scored after 16 minutes.

Brandon Thomas made it 4-1 on aggregate after 23 minutes with second-half goals from Konstantelias and another from Taison put the tie to bed.

Hibernian fans travelled to Birmingham in numbers with their heroes already 5-0 down to Aston Villa after the first leg.

Jhon Duran extended Villa's advantage 20 minutes into the match with Leon Bailey adding a second with ten minutes until half time. Matty Cash made it 3-0 after the interval as Unai Emery's team went through 8-0 on aggregate.
