League 2 Montrose have parted company with manager Stuart Garden by mutual consent in the wake of Saturday's 4-0 defeat to Peterhead at Balmoor.
Garden had been in charge since May 2012 and Montrose came close to reaching the play-offs last season but they are eighth in the table, nine points outside the top four.
A club statement read: "The club will be advertising the post for a manager or player/manager, however in the interim George Shields, assistant manager, and John McCafferty, goalkeeping coach, will be responsible for coaching and team selection duties.
"The club wishes to place on record our thanks to Stuart for his efforts during the past two years."
