Goalkeeper Bobby Geddes made history by becoming Dundee's oldest ever player at the age of 49 when he came on as a substitute in the First Division defeat at Raith Rovers on Wednesday.
The oldest player to feature in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League is St Mirren assistant manager Andy Millen, who was 42 years and nine months old when he made his final appearance for the Paisley club against Hearts in March 2008.
Others to have played SPL football beyond their 40th birthday include Craig Brewster, who starred for Hibernian, Dunfermline, Inverness CT, Dundee United and Aberdeen.
Aberdeen goalkeeper Jim Leighton is another to have played on past 40 and St Johnstone keeper Alan Main was just short of his 42nd birthday when he lined up earlier this season.
Falkirk and Hibernian favourite Russell Latapy also enjoyed a long career while Rangers defender David Weir, who has played in every SPL match this season, turns 40 on May 9.
