Grant calls time on career

East Stirling midfielder decides to retire from game

East Stirling’s former Celtic and Dundee midfielder Charlie Grant has decided to call time on his football career aged just 24 after a series of injuries. Grant was a member of the Scotland Under-19 team which reached the European Championship Final in Poland in 2006.Charlie Grant in action for Dundee

Grant was one of the 9 players released by Dundee when they entered Administration in October and he then joined East Stirling on a short term deal under his former Parkhead coach Jim McInally until the January transfer window opened.

He failed to find a full time club during that spell before returning to the Shire where he played his last game when he came on as a substitute against Queen’s Park 10 days ago.

An emotional Grant advised the club of his decision to quit after their 3-2 win with assistant head coach David Nicholls saying, “We tried to talk Charlie out of it and told him to take some time before he finally made his mind up. He says he has done that now and we respect his decision and wish him well in whatever he decides to do next.”
