Hawke returns to help former club

Ex-Cappielow striker out to build club's Youth system

Former Morton goal-grabber Warren Hawke has returned to the Greenock Club to oversee the development of the club’s Youth system.

HWarren Hawke in action for Morton (2005)awke, who scored over fifty goals in nearly 250 appearances for the Cappielow men, has been brought in on a consultancy basis and has initially been given the task of creating an elite youth system at the club.

A club spokesperson said, “We want to launch a youth set-up that builds on the good work that John Laird started in 2010. Our aim is have a set-up that “Inverclyde can be proud of.”

“We want to increase the number of teams from our present to two to a minimum of four for the start of next season. These will be in the age groups from under-13 to under-19 in the SFA Youth Initiative or the SFL league.”

A talent drain from the region is the reason behind the move with the spokesperson adding, “We have seen too many talented boys heading away from here to play for other clubs and our aim is to bring the top local players to Morton. We want to develop them and ultimately give them the chance of playing at the highest possible level.”

Hawke’s role will be ensure that the First Division club are accessing all the appropriate funding available to help them develop young players with the spokesperson adding, “Warren is as an outstanding choice to help us achieve our goals. He has opened up lines of communication with officials and individuals who are in a position to assist us which is absolutely vital in the way forward.”

Ironically Hawke’s son Lewis recently made his debut for Allan Moore’s first team after just 3 months at the club after signing from a local Boys Club.
