Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC are to name the main stand at Tulloch Caledonian Stadium after the club's life president John 'Jock' McDonald, who died in December.
The board of the SPL club have decide to preserve the memory of Caley Thistle's first chairman by rebranding the main stand the Jock McDonald Stand, a decision which has been warmly welcomed by the family. Planning permission has now been sought for the name change.
"Jock was a legend in North and Scottish football, through his lengthy chairmanship of Inverness Thistle and then his championing of the merger which brought Scottish League football to the Highlands", said club chairman George Fraser.
"The array of SFA dignitaries at his funeral paid tribute to the esteem in which he was held for his long service to the SFA at international committee and referees committee level. But Jock was very much an enthusiast for football in our city and we feel it is appropriate to honour him in this way."
David Sutherland, the club's major shareholder, said:" I think this move will be warmly welcomed by our supporters. It is a richly deserved tribute, allowing Jock's name to live on in a stand where he loved to sit and cheer on his team. His support was immense."
