The 32-year-old Canada internationalist can count Gillingham, Norwich City, Barnsley, Blackburn Rovers, Coventry City and Walsall among his former teams and has been without a club since leaving St Mirren in the summer.
Jackson could make his debut for Angelo Alessio's side in Saturday's Ladbrokes Premiership game against Livingston at Rugby Park.
