One of Scotland’s forgotten players, former Bolton Wanderers and Alloa goalkeeper James Evans has got in quick with his wish list for Santa, as he has told him what he wants as a present for next year’s Christmas. Evans, who has been out of the game for more than a year already has recently undergone extensive knee surgery and all the 28 year old wants in December 2011 is to be back playing football.
Evans, who represented Scotland at Schoolboy level, had turned Junior after an earlier injury ended his time at Recreation Park and after a successful spell at Arthurlie he was rewarded with a three year deal at Auchinleck Talbot, however disaster struck early into his days at Beechwood.
The shot-stopper said, “After just six games I injured my knee and I have had to wait for over a year for my operation. I was operated on for nearly five hours with damage to my cruciate and lateral ligament’s sorted and just for good measure I had two tears in my cartilage tidied up as well.”
Evans, who is the nephew of Crawley Town boss Stevie Evans added, “It has been an incredibly tough period as I would go and watch Talbot play but you really miss not being involved and after a year you begin to feel out of things.”
“I was back in for physiotherapy just 3 days after the operation so that is keeping me busy just now but I face up to a years rehabilitation work before I can play again. To miss two years out of your career is really disappointing but being a goalkeeper I can play on for quite a bit into my thirties and that is my aim now.”
