St Johnstone midfielder Gary McDonald is set to miss the rest of the season after breaking down in the half-time warm-up against St Mirren last week.
Saints boss Tommy Wright said: "Our season has already been marred by freakish, ‘non-contact’ serious injuries and it looks like Gary McDonald may need a similar operation to Steven MacLean.
"That will make seven serious injuries to key players throughout the season but I also feel it highlights the strength of the squad and the achievement of gaining a top-six place."
