Albion Rovers’ full back Michael McGowan’s amazing record of never missing a second of play for the Third Division club in seventy games came to an end on Saturday when he was taken off against Annan Athletic as the Coatbridge men went down 4-1.
The 23 year old had started and finished every game he had played in since August 2008 without ever being suspended or injured, however after being sick during the encounter at Galabank, manager Paul Martin had to end the run by substituting McGowan.
Martin said, “Michael was not feeling well before the game but was determined to play and even after being ill he wanted to carry on but we had to take him off. It was a disappointing way for his unbroken run to end.”
The player is in line to make his seventy first start with Martin saying, “Michael is feeling a lot better and should be okay for our cup-tie with Sunnybank.”
