Former Partick Thistle captain set to be honoured

Motherwell captain Stephen Craigan’s Testimonial Dinner is being held at the Bellshill Hilton on Saturday, February 27 after the Fir Park club have played Kilmarnock in the SPL. Event organiser former Motherwell Secretary Alan Dick said, “It should be a very busy night as Stephen has made lots of friends during his time at Motherwell, Partick Thistle and playing for Northern Ireland and his work in the media. Chick Young and Tom Cowan will be providing the entertainment on the night.”

Campbell heads for trial at Grimsby

Former Hibs striker Ross Campbell who has recently returned from Swedish football has joined English side

Grimsby Town for a trial period as he looks for a new club.

Prunty keeps banging them in

Alloa played Bo’ness juniors in a friendly on Tuesday night and new signing from Ayr United Bryan Prunty kept on the goal trial as bagged a double to add to two goals he scored against Arthurlie in a friendly at the weekend. Former Berwick Rangers boss Allan McGonigal’s side won the game 5-4 to give them the perfect boost ahead of the Emirates Junior Cup tie at Blantyre Victoria on Saturday.

Mendes extends stay at Ayr

Ayr United have extended the contract of former St Mirren and Dunfermline striker Junior Mendes until the end of the season. Thirty three year old Mendes signed on for Brian Reid’s men in November after leaving Ilkeston Town.

Raith trio go Junior

Raith Rovers have sent a trio of youngsters out on loan to junior sides to gain valuable experience with Graeme Beveridge and Tom Graham joining Musselburgh whereas defender Craig Wedderburn opted for St Andrews United.

Moyes joins Arbroath

Hibs young defender Ewan Moyes, who spent the first part of the season on loan to Third Division leaders Livingston, has joined Second Division Arbroath on a similar deal. The Gayfield side have also extended the stay of St Mirren youth Kyle Faulds at the club for another month.

Graham goes back to Pars

Dunfermline’s 18 year old centre half Lee Graham has ended his loan period at Clyde having played five matches since joining in November. A Broadwood spokesperson commented, “Lee returns to East End Park with our best wishes and thanks for providing some much needed defensive cover during a busy period before Christmas.”

Watt steps up fitness

Queen’s Park’s darting striker Ian Watt has stepped up his return to fitness after a broken metatarsal bone and played for half an hour for a Hampden Youth side recently. Watt has been out for three months and head coach Gardner Speirs advised, “We are looking forward to having Ian available to us again as his pace gives us different options up front.”

McCall hopes to have Lovell available

Partick Thistle boss Ian McCall is hoping to have striker Stevie Lovell available for this weekend’s visit of Dunfermline. Lovell missed out against out Raith Rovers last weekend because of a groin problem, however McCall has advised, “Steve is responding to treatment from our physio, Kenny Crichton. We are a better side when he is playing as he adds a real physical presence and we are hoping he will be fit for the game against the Pars.”
