No Gordon offer at Dumbarton

Dumbarton manager Ian Murray moved yesterday to quash rumours that former Scotland goalkeeper Craig Gordon was set to join the Sons in a playing and coaching role for next season.

Dumbarton manager Ian Murray moved yesterday to quash rumours that former Scotland goalkeeper Craig Gordon was set to join the Sons in a playing and coaching role for next season.

The 31-year-old former Hearts and Sunderland shot-stopper has only played once in the past three years due to a knee injury, with his last outing being in April 2012.

Gordon, who has been training with Rangers, announced last month that he was looking to return as a player, ironically on a BBC Sportscene programme where Murray was also a guest.

Gordon had a short stint coaching at the Sons last season and while Murray would welcome the move he reckons there is little chance of it happening.

He said: “I am sorry to advise that there is no substance to these rumours. Craig and I know each other and obviously were on TV together but there are no talks to bring him here.

“He has a lot of interest in him from Premiership clubs and if none of that bears fruit I will gladly make a pitch. However, I do not think Craig will be short of offers.”
