Josh Rae
It has been a rollercoaster season for Queen of the South’s No 1. The former Peterhead shot-stopper suffered a serious facial injury in August which kept him on the sidelines for an extended period. Even after Rae got back fit, he had to bide his time on the bench but stepped up to the plate when on-loan keeper Sol Brynn was recalled by parent club Middlesbrough at the turn of the year. Since then, Rae has turned in some terrific performances, including making an outstanding double save in the SPFL Trust Trophy Cup semi-final against Cove Rangers. The 21-year-old also impressed in Queens’ 3-3 draw with Raith Rovers, making a number of crucial saves and managing to keep out a Jamie Gullan spot-kick.
Wullie Gibson
It would be a remarkable story if ‘Mr Queen of the South’ could guide the Dumfries club to their first trophy in nearly a decade. Gibson is already a winner of this competition but this could be the final trophy as a player and his first honour of his managerial career. Despite now being called gaffer by his team-mates, Gibson is still a key player for Queens and has featured in a number of positions this season. At the fine age of 37, his experience could be key in this showpiece final.
Lee Connelly
The Doonhamers’ chances in the final have been boosted by the return of Connelly. The livewire has been Queens’ shining light in attack whenever he’s been on the field this season. And Raith know how dangerous the 22-year-old can be as he netted the winner in their first Championship meeting of the campaign. The former Sunderland winger has just returned from a knee injury but he’ll be eager to add to his 10 goals this season and lift silverware for the first time in his senior career.
