Rangers v RB Leipzig preview

Europa League semi-final second leg this evening

  • RB Leipzig lead 1-0 from the first leg thanks to a late goal from Angelino and it's an 8.00pm kick-off for the return match at Ibrox tonight.
  • It will be an emotional occasion for the club following the sad news earlier this week that long-serving kitman Jimmy Bell had passed away.
  • The Light Blues have already beaten Borussia Dortmund, Red Star Belgrade and Braga in the knock-out stages of the Europa League.
  • Leipzig saw off Italian side Atalanta 3-1 on aggregate in the quarter-finals, drawing 1-1 in Germany and winning 2-0 away from home.
  • Rangers are bidding to reach their first European final since 2007/08, when they lost to Zenit after beating Fiorentina on penalties in the last four.
  • Their run to the semi-finals this season began with a 1-0 aggregate victory over Alashkert back in August, with Alfredo Morelos scoring the only goal.
  • When Rangers won the European Cup Winners' Cup against Dynamo Moscow in 1972, they beat German opposition in the shape of Bayern Munich in the semi-finals.
  • Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side go into the game on the back of a 1-1 draw with Celtic on Sunday while Leipzig were beaten 3-1 by Borussia Mönchengladbach on Monday.
  • RB Leipzig have scored in all of their European ties this season - netting 24 times in their 11 matches.
  • They are currently fifth in the Bundesliga table, with two games remaining and face Freiburg in the German Cup final on May 21.
  • Eintracht Frankfurt lead West Ham United 2-1 from the first leg at the London Stadium in the other semi-final. The final is in Seville on Wednesday May 18.
  • The Europa League winners are guaranteed a place in the group stage of next season's Champions League.
  • The referee for this evening's game is Artur Dias of Portugal.
