Rangers William Hill Premiership

Russell Martin leaves Rangers

The former Scotland defender has left Ibrox

Rangers have parted company with head coach Russell Martin.

The former Scotland defender was appointed in June 2025 on a three-year deal but leaves after four months in the role.

His final match in charge saw Rangers draw 1-1 with Falkirk to leave the team in eighth place in the William Hill Premiership with eight points in seven matches.

Martin, who replaced Philippe Clement at Ibrox, failed to win any of his first five William Hill Premiership matches while also seeing his team beaten 9-1 on aggregate by Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League Play-Off round.

In a statement, Rangers said:

"Rangers Football Club confirms that it has parted company with Head Coach, Russell Martin.

While all transition periods require some time, results have not met the club's expectations.

Assistant Head Coach, Matt Gill, and First-Team Coach, Mike Williamson, will also be departing.

Russell and his staff have worked exceptionally hard throughout their time at the club. We thank them for their efforts and wish them well for the future.

Further updates from the club will follow in due course."
