Round-up of the opening-day games in the SPFL

Celtic began the defence of their cinch Premiership title with a 4-2 home win over Ross County in the early game. Heart of Midlothian defeated St Johnstone 2-0 at McDiarmid Park while Dundee's return to the top flight was a 1-1 draw with Motherwell at the Kilmac Stadium. Livingston and Aberdeen drew 0-0 at the Tony Macaroni Arena. In the late game, Kilmarnock upset the odds by beating Rangers 1-0 at Rugby Park thanks to a second-half goal from Brad Lyons. Hibernian host St Mirren on Sunday, kick-off 3.00pm.

Dunfermline Athletic marked their return to the cinch Championship with a 2-1 win over fellow promoted side Airdrieonians at East End Park while Queen's Park defeated Inverness CT by the same scoreline in the Highland capital. Greenock Morton kicked off with a 3-1 win over Ayr United at Cappielow and Raith Rovers hit back for a 2-2 draw with Partick Thistle at Firhill.

Falkirk started their cinch League 1 campaign with a 3-0 home win over promoted Annan Athletic while Hamilton Accies defeated Cove Rangers 1-0 at New Douglas Park. Alloa Athletic edged out Queen of the South 4-3 at Palmerston and Kelty Hearts won 2-0 away to Montrose. League 2 champions Stirling Albion beat Edinburgh City 1-0 at Forthbank.

Peterhead were the biggest winners on the opening day of cinch League 2, beating East Fife 3-0 at Bayview. Stranraer's long trip to Elgin City was rewarded with a 1-0 win while the other three games ended all square. The Spartans drew 1-1 with Clyde on their league debut at Ainslie Park and it was the same scoreline between Bonnyrigg Rose and Dumbarton at New Dundas Park. Stenhousemuir and Forfar Athletic drew 0-0 at Ochilview.
