Aberdeen suffered their first league defeat since March, going down 2-1 to St Mirren in Paisley, while Rangers were held to a 1-1 draw by Dundee United at Ibrox.
Dundee saw off bottom club Hibernian 4-1 in the evening game at Dens Park while Ross County beat Motherwell 2-1 in Dingwall. St Johnstone were 1-0 winners against Kilmarnock at McDiarmid Park.
Third-placed Ayr United beat Dunfermline Athletic 1-0 at Somerset Park in the only game in the William Hill Championship.
Montrose defeated Annan Athletic 2-1 at Links Park in William Hill League 1 while all of today's William Hill League 2 fixtures were postponed.
