Scotland Under 17'sScotland’s under-17 head coach Ross Mathie the  young Scottish squad, including SFL player Connor McVey of Queen's Park, for hitting a last minute winner for the second game running to ensure their qualification to the Elite round of the UEFA Championships. The young Scots struck through Celtic youngster John Herron to defeat host nation Luxembourg 2-1 at the Henri Dunant Stadium in Beggen on Sunday evening.

Mathie said, “I am delighted that my youngsters have stuck to the task in the same manner as the national side’s Under-21 and Full Team have by scoring goals to win games right at the death. Billy Stark’s team did it at Pittodrie to defeat Austria and then Craig Levein’s side won when Stephen McManus headed in against Lichtenstein and now my boys have done it twice.”

Mathie added, “Whatever people say about our game we are still a nation of fighters and that is four games in a row that proves it.”

The Scots play a Switzerland side that have also qualified for the Elite Round tomorrow afternoon.
