Paul Woods of Queen’s Park has had a fantastic first season in senior football and made the shortlist for PFA Scotland League 2 Player of the Year.
The former Harmony Row forward, who has also had spells with East Kilbride Thistle, Lanark United and Petershill, goes under the SPFL Spotlight as Queen’s Park prepare for the promotion play-offs, beginning with a trip to Arbroath on Wednesday night.
What is the best goal you have ever scored?
That was back in my days playing for Harmony Row at U21 level. I hit a volley as the ball dropped out of the sky right into the top corner of the net. It was at their new complex at Govan that Sir Alex Ferguson had opened and it was one of the first goals scored there.
What is the best game you have played in?
Again with Harmony Row U21s, when we won the Scottish Cup at Airdrie’s home ground. We won it on penalties and I scored our fifth one, which was not the decisive kick but was still a really important one to score.
What is your favourite away ground?
I have enjoyed playing at East Fife’s Bayview this season as it has a really good surface.
What is your favourite other sport?
I do not really bother with other sports. At a push I will watch golf if there is nothing else on.
Which player in the world would you like to have played with?
Lubo Moravcik was a really special player. I watched him a lot when he was with Celtic and he was a talent. A lot of people had Henrik Larsson as their favourite at that time but Lubo was mine. He made Larsson look even better because of the goals that he set up.
What is your favourite pre-match meal?
For home games I have three boiled eggs with beans on toast. For away games with Queen’s Park we are given pasta on the bus and that is OK as well.
What is your favourite music?
I like old school rock bands like Led Zeppelin, AC/DC and The Who. As a result, I do not get anything played in the dressing room! Shaun Fraser picks the tunes at Queen’s Park and the stuff I like never gets a mention.
Who is the biggest moaner you have played with?
In my Junior days at Petershill, Craig Palmer and Jordan Murch were hard going as they moaned constantly. Craig is at Arthurlie now and Jordan is at Irvine Meadow and I would reckon the rest of the Petershill squad are delighted they have been split up! At Queen’s Park, Scott Gibson is always moaning. I travel in with him so I need to be careful that he does not rub off on me.
Who has been your most skilful team-mate?
I played with a player called Leyton Slack at Harmony Row and what a talent he was. He was with Manchester City at the same time as Micah Richards and Bradley Wright-Phillips but it did not work out for him. He could turn on a sixpence but never got picked up again and now plays amateur in East Kilbride.
Who is your worst dressed team-mate?
Our goalkeeper Willie Muir, who thinks his Lonsdale trainers are decent. We reckon he has a store card for the Officers Club as all his stuff is from there.
Who is the best trainer?
David MacGregor is a great example to everyone at Queen’s Park. On an away trip we are on the bus looking to go home and David is still doing his warm down. He is in great shape and a guy we can all learn from.
Who is the best dancer?
Ciaran McElroy
Craig Stewart
