Split Permutations!

Who needs what as we reach the split crunch time?

We've reached crunch time in the season as the final fixtures before the split sees seven sides vying for three places in the top six.

Here's what each side needs heading into the weekend!

Dundee United

Win: Simple for the Tangerines on Saturday - win and in. Top six secured.

Draw: Similarly simple – a draw against their neighbours at Tannadice secures a top six spot.

Loss: United are in the best spot of all top six contenders, as even a derby loss is likely to see them hold onto their top six spot. However, a combination of wins for Motherwell or Livingston, Hibernian and Ross County would see them drop out. Wins for Livingston and Ross County in this scenario could see United drop out on goals scored, should they end on the same goal difference.

Motherwell

Win: Just like United, simple. Defeat Livingston at the Tony Mac on Saturday and they’re in.

Draw: Probably enough to secure top six for the Steelmen, so long as Hibernian and Ross County don’t pick up wins.

Loss: A loss may see Motherwell secure top six football if Hibernian lose, Ross County and Aberdeen draw and St. Mirren don’t win with a 5 goal swing.

Hibernian

Win: The last of the simple calculations. If Hibernian defeat Hearts in Saturday’s Edinburgh derby, they’ll join them in the top six.

Draw: A draw would also be enough for the Cabbage if Ross County and Aberdeen draw. St. Mirren would require a 12-goal swing to be a factor.

Loss by 3 or less goals: This would secure a top six spot if Livingston don’t win, Aberdeen and Ross County draw and St. Mirren fail to win.

Loss by 4 or more goals: This would see Ross County or Aberdeen overtake Hibernian either on points should Ross County, Aberdeen or Livingston win, or on goals scored should Ross County and Aberdeen draw.

Ross County

Win: The Staggies require a win and Motherwell to draw with Livingston OR a win and Hibernian to draw or lose at Tynecastle OR Dundee United to lose.

Draw: A share of the points at Pittodrie would be enough if Hibernian lose by 4, Livingston draw and St. Mirren fail to win.

Loss: Simple – County will end the season in the bottom six.

Livingston

Win: The Lions require a win by a bigger margin than Ross County, or a win with Hibernian losing or drawing at Tynecastle.

Draw or Loss: A draw or loss would not be enough for Livingston to secure a top six spot.

Aberdeen

Win: The Dons will secure a top six spot if they defeat County, and Hibernian fail to win at Tynecastle.

Draw or Loss: A draw or a loss sees the Dons finishing the season in the bottom six.

St. Mirren

Win: The Buddies retain a small chance of top six football, but require a win at the SMISA Stadium, Aberdeen and Ross County to draw, and Hibernian to lose and either Motherwell to win, or to lose with a 5 goal swing.

Draw or Loss: A draw or a loss in Paisley sees the Buddies finish in the bottom six.
